Can you tell we love owls?

We are truly excited about the new products we just added to kittenandnana.com!  We are now carrying these adorable crocheted owl hats:

We also enjoyed taking photos of the kids wearing them, the tough (and fun!) part was getting all 3 of them to sit still and pose for the camera...

I fired over 70 shots of these 3 girls and I only got one doable advert shot...

But believe it or not, when I was going through the photos, my favorite ones were actually the first three above.  It was so fun looking at them and they surely brought a smile to my face.

Going Bananas!

With one week left before the 2011 Walnut Creek Family Fest, we have been very busy with preparations for the event and making new products to add to our collection of hair accessories.  Add to that chasing after our three girls, being carpool drivers, homework, attending playdates, etc. and we are indeed going bananas!  In as much as we have been so busy, we really can't complain.  The joy and excitement we feel over the overwhelming response we have gotten so far for Kitten and Nana more than makes up for it.

We just added these cute little monkeys to our store.  The Trisha & Francis Hair Elastics are sold in pairs.  Like the Corduroy Owl Clips, they are handmade with love from felt and are  perfectly imperfect.  I must say, we really are getting very good at mastering our clip-making skills.

You know how some of our products are inspired by or named after actual people, places, events, etc. in our lives?  Well, as I was making these hair elastics, they were the first ones to pop into my head.  Meet my good friends, Trisha & Francis...

Theirs is a story of true love and friendship.  They have been together for so long, yet everything about them is so new.  I have such admiration not only for their devotion and commitment to each other, but also for proving that the honeymoon never ends.

Oh, and did I mention that they happen to LOVE monkeys??? :-)

Busy Mommas!

"Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it." - Henry David Thoreau

I surely wish that Mr. Thoreau, an American essayist, poet, and philosopher, is correct on this one!  My sister and I have been really very busy the past week making more items for the store in preparation for our very first festival on Labor Day weekend.

We've been busy brainstorming and making new stuff for Kitten and Nana, busy chasing after and taking care of our daughters, busy being homemakers, busy being momtrepreneurs, and the list goes on... The past week has been crazy-fun and it will continue to be this way (or even busier) until our first vendor appearance in the Kids Fest in September.

This morning, in the middle of all these, I realized that we've been socially quiet as well, and a part of me felt a little guilty for forgetting to update this blog, our Facebook page and twitter account.  I used to have a mommy blog which I committed on updating DAILY during the first year of my daughter's life that a few days of inactivity on this blog felt like I was slacking, haha! But, despite being missing in action the past few days, we can't be more thankful because we have seen the most activity on our Facebook page.  We have seen a rapid increase in Facebook fans this past week, we are at 345 fans (and growing!) as I write this blog entry! Thank you so much to all our family and friends... old friends and NEW friends, for the love!

What's in a Name? This is our Story...

Hi everyone, this is Kitten.  When my sister and I decided to do business together, we both realized that we are a business-partner-match-made-in-heaven!  I never hesitated to start this new endeavor with her because I completely trust her and we both know our strengths and weaknesses.  Growing up together with only a year and a half age gap gave us the "special powers" to read each other's thoughts, finish each other's sentences, and communicate through our eyes without having to utter a single word!  This special bond between us started the day I was born.  My sister was so excited to have a little sister that she accidentally named me "Kitten"... that was what came out of her mouth when she tried to say my name, Christine, in Toddlerese!  The name quickly caught on and next thing you know, everyone called me Kitten and each year, I found this exact name immortalized in icing on each of my birthday cakes... yes, up to now!  I also remember back then that our little brother and I found her name, Katrina, too long (well... t was really an obvious excuse for our lack of skill to say anything more than 2 syllables at that age) that we shortened it to "Nana".

So when my sister and I decided to open our own business, "Kitten and Nana" was our first and ONLY choice... we thought it was perfect!

Here's one of our many photos as children, enjoying each other's company.  When we look at our old photographs, it's amazing how each one triggers a happy memory of our childhood.

Now that we are grown women and have three daughters between us, we hope that the three of them will grow up loving each other as much as we do each other.
